I’ve been wanting to share some recent reads I’ve really enjoyed.
Picture Books:
–Elsie’s Bird written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by David Small
It’s hard to decide which is more beautiful and evocative, the words or the illustrations (we’ll call it a tie). A lovely picture book for older kids.
Early Readers:
–Pigs Make Me Sneeze! by Mo Willems
My sister-in-law gave this to my five-year-old for her birthday and she loves it. It is a great early reader because “Aa–aa–aa–choooo!” is such a fun word to read over and over again!
Younger Middle Grade:
–The Talented Clementine and Clementine, Friend of the Week by Sara Pennypacker and narrated by Jessica Almasy (pictures by Marla Frazee)
My seven-year-old and I have been listening to these audiobooks and they are fabulous. Clementine is such a hilarious, spunky character. The narrator does a fantastic job, but I’m sure these would be great to read as well. We are listening to them out of order; the first book is called just plain Clementine, but we haven’t had a chance to listen to that one yet because it is always checked out.
What have you been reading lately?

Sounds like fun books! I just read Bram Stoker’s Dracula, after having it on my to-be-read list for way too long, and followed it up with the much lighter and easier “Into the Labyrinth” by Roderick Townley (sequel to The Great Good Thing).
I’ve never read Dracula. It’s one of those books that has left such a legacy but I’ve never actually read the original story.
Great. You have another cool blog header and I still haven’t made one. Can you make one for me, pretty please? Did not know Seth was going to law school — looks like you’ll be in EV forever.
My kids are in love with Piggie & Gerald as well. We have also re-discovered Richard Scarry — I loved his books when I was a kid. I love almost anything by Jane Yolen.
